Part of Laphroaig's Cask Collection series, this peated single malt whisky is aged in various oak types sourced from different barrels. It is bottled at a 40% ABV.

I got this from a whiskey drawing at a charity event. It resembles Laphroaig, all the expected characteristics are present, but it's just a muted version at 40% ABV. The flavors are actually less intense than I anticipated, given it's only 3% less ABV than the 10-year expression. It's acceptable, but I find it hard to comprehend why someone would purchase this.
The smell is faint, smoky, floral, sweet, with light fruits - perhaps pear? The taste is fruity, smoky, mild, and woody. The finish is extremely short, spicy, hot, with only lingering black licorice notes.
Smoky, sweet smoke, with just the right amount of sweetness (not much). Not overly thick or chewy. Lingers briefly on the palate. Over the past few years, my appreciation for this has grown substantially.
Delightful subtle smoke and sweetness. Definitely a new top pick.
