Laphroaig 21 yr Oloroso single cask

nCV19 edition: Opening a premium sample, because... why not? My family and I are still healthy and virus-free... for now. This is on another level. This is the kind of whisky that will significantly increase in value in the coming years. It's a double maturation single cask—meaning one cask was aged in a bourbon barrel for about 11 years, then that same single cask was further matured in Oloroso for an additional 10 years. Whoever conceived of this for this specific cask deserves recognition; the cask selection was outstanding. Only 322 bottles were produced. Notes of tobacco, linseed oil, pine... oysters, and finally, an incredible sweet marmalade finish. I've sampled numerous Islay whiskies, from robust young ones to refined older expressions with deep complexity, but this is the finest Islay I've ever encountered. Unquestionably. Regrettably, I only had a 6cl sample. In hindsight, I wish I had purchased a bottle. If you come across this, acquire it immediately. Addendum: The 1981 single cask Oloroso Laphroaig 27 is priced around $5000. This was released at $400. I regret not buying it...

Attended a tasting event at Laphroaig and sampled this. It has a lot going on. The aroma had a curious honey quality. The palate, however, is quite intricate. The alcohol sensation ebbs and flows. It's both sweet and piquant. Quite remarkable!

I sampled this at a tasting event in Scotland at Laphroaig. The nose was wonderfully fruity. The taste was complex, with peat and fruit notes.
