Greetings to my second account of my Lagavulin Warehouse Tasting Tour. This time, we have a younger whisky that proves age is irrelevant. This is an 8-year-old Straight From The Cask Lagavulin, bottled at 56% ABV, matured in a former red wine European oak cask. It was, of course, poured by the esteemed Ian McArthur. The nose presents a wonderful experience: coconut, tar, resembling a pond. Gooseberries, lightly peated and ashy, with grapefruit notes. The aroma is akin to water with added salt for gargling a sore throat. It's like vanilla cream dipped in an ashtray. The palate was simply flawless. Coconut, grapefruit, pepper, and ash. Remarkably elegant for a young cask strength. Mild saltiness, with all elements well-integrated. The aftertaste is straightforward yet incredible. Beautiful smokiness and ash, like a bonfire on a chilly evening. Overall, this was quite surprising. It's astonishing how an 8-year-old single malt can achieve such well-executed flavors and aromas. The palate and aftertaste were absolutely perfect. I am thoroughly impressed; my rating is 96 out of 100.
