Kōloa Single Barrel Kaua'i Reserve 5 Year

This spirit comes from a single barrel and is bottled at full proof, with the final alcohol content fluctuating between 110 and 124 (55%-62% ABV). The distiller mentioned it is crafted from sugarcane juice and undergoes a double distillation process, with each pass occurring in separate copper hybrid stills. Barrel #B-078 was bottled at 59.98% ABV. Served neat in a flute, the aroma is dominated by heavy oak, similar to bourbon but gentler. The taste also features significant oak, yet the second-use barrel mellows the wood tannins and char. While most of the base spirit's character is diminished, it's not excessively so, retaining a rum-like quality. This would be a suitable introduction to rum for a bourbon enthusiast, or vice versa.

An exquisite, Cask Strength Single Barrel Rum aged for 5 years in American white oak barrels and bottled at 62% ABV. The aroma presents notes of molasses, wood, fruits, nuts, herbs & spices. The palate is rich & delicate, with notes of pineapple, honey, and brown butter. It finishes with a balanced, medium length, featuring notes of orange zest, oak, toasted vanilla, roasted almonds & cinnamon.

Phenomenal, with whiskey at the forefront, followed by the sweetness of rum, then spice. Very complex and enjoyable.

Very smooth for nearly 120 proof, yet it packs a punch! Very spicy. A nice sipper.
