Released in 2014, this is the inaugural cask-strength bottling from Kilchoman, one of Islay's smallest distilleries. It is a blend of 35 barrels aged for five years in ex-bourbon casks. This expression is non-chill filtered and bottled at 59.2% ABV.

This is truly awful. Exceptionally bad. I understand this is a personal viewpoint and not everyone will concur. Imagine a hint of a dental office combined with oil sands and whiffs of a cadaver. The long finish is also a negative, as I needed to consume almonds and pumpkin seeds 15 minutes later to cleanse my palate of the disgusting aftertaste.
A bit intense, but then this could be expected at cask strength and price point. Lots of nice fruit and some smoke. Decent body and acceptable finish for the price. I detected honey, some apple and pear notes along with the malt and smoke. Would recommend for those wanting to try a Kilchoman whiskey, although I might suggest adding a little water.
I actually sampled a single cask release aged in bourbon barrels. Bottle 454 of 2008, 61% ABV, distilled 12.9.2008, bottled 17.6.2013 Excellent. A fully peated Islay. Wonderful aroma and flavor. Great lingering mouthfeel. Not overly harsh given the alcohol content. Nothing negative to report. It lacks the intensity of a Laphroaig or Ardbeg, but it's a fantastic peated whisky.
Rating: 8.5 Tasting notes: Intense, yet offers little added value over the "regular" 2007 vintage. Perhaps I shouldn't compare them directly. Cask strength is a different category. Unusual aftertaste in the finish.
A single cask bottling of Kilchoman POTSTILL Edition - Briana's Choice Nr. 4 2011, bottled at 58.9% strength from cask 570/11, yielding 344 bottles from a Sherry cask.
Enjoyed at the Irish Heather in Vancouver. Subtle aroma. Not much color. A solid whiskey within a limited profile. Acceptable.
