Kentucky Owl Bourbon (Batch #7)

The color is a deep, muted amber with a lovely luminescence. It leaves a thin, oily film coating the glass sides when swirled. The aroma begins with a substantial, pleasing amount of oak, not at all overpowering. Beneath that, a well-integrated blend of baking spices, vanilla, red apple, earthy rye, and a touch of caramel develops. The palate is dry and rich, filling the mouth with baking spices complemented by enough creamy oaky vanilla for balance. The creaminess yields to smooth rye and brown sugar notes, with an almost bready quality that makes the whiskey more substantial with a second taste. The finish is moderately long, with lingering baking spices and oak, while a sweet creaminess persists, becoming chewier until it dissipates.

Rated 7/10. Very tasty. Tastes like spicy cherry cola to me, all the time. Both the smell and the taste. Mouthfeel is oily. Not sure if the high price is justified, but it is a very delicious drink.

Dark brown color. Despite this bourbon's high alcohol content, the aroma is surprisingly sweet and rich. I detected notes of caramel with a gentle spice. Very good.

Very floral on the nose, with hints of lavender and tobacco. It starts with honey on the tongue, then becomes fiery. Menthol, perhaps cayenne pepper spice?

My Rating: 3.75 Considering the cost, I'm let down. I had higher hopes for this. It's acceptable, but doesn't live up to the buzz or the price.
