Kentucky 10 Wheated Small Batch Bourbon

This is not a spirit for slow sipping. It's a raw, young spirit that needs more time. Imagine the intense woody taste of a certain single barrel bourbon, then picture running used sandpaper over your tongue. That's the raw, green wood flavor that overwhelms everything else. There are faint hints of vanilla and rye spice, but they are obscured by a product not yet ready. It's reminiscent of a distillery when it first opened. There is potential, but it's undeveloped.

Appearance: Deep amber hue, presenting a welcoming warmth. Nose: Soft currents of caramel and vanilla lead, with undertones of mellow oak and a hint of honeyed grain. Palate: Incredibly smooth right away. The wheat in the recipe creates a mellow, full body, harmonizing flavors of toffee, mild brown sugar, and gentle baking spices. It's sweet enough to enhance the oak without dominating. Finish: Moderate and elegant, with lasting traces of vanilla custard and a whisper of warming spice.

A local liquor store recommended this as a suitable alternative to Weller. Since WSR isn't particularly special, this is a good wheated option at a reasonable price. It's smooth but lacks depth of flavor.

Nose: Very sweet, with a cherry initial note. A caramel finish, smooth and pleasant on the nose. Palate: Sweet right away, with hazelnut notes, followed by a wave of heat that eventually calms down. Finish: Brown sugar and warmth that leaves the mouth watering.

That's funny. My liquor store gave me the same sales pitch. It's okay, but it's amusing how brands are marketed now. "It's just as good as...."

Acceptable but not outstanding, the light flavor dissipates rather quickly. Decent value at the buy-one-get-one price (two for $36).
