Jura 12 Year Sherry Cask

Nose features malt, grapes, raisins, fruitcake, brown sugar, and a touch of peppermint. The initial taste presents sweet dried and stewed fruits. As it develops, mild spices like cinnamon and ginger emerge. The mouthfeel is very smooth, with no alcohol warmth whatsoever. The finish is medium to short, evoking sweet frosted Christmas cake. Sweet sherry is quite noticeable on both the nose and palate of this dram. It's a mild and easily approachable whisky overall. While the finish is rather short and the flavor profile could use more complexity and depth, I wouldn't refuse a pour because of that. This would be an excellent whisky for newcomers, and one would have to be overly critical to dismiss it simply because it's accessible and lacks exclusive craftsmanship. I'd suggest it as an everyday dram if you can find it at a reasonable cost. Tasted at Jura Distillery, and then again from a 30ml sample, April 18th 2025 “Above Average”: 80/100 (3 stars)

The Jura 12YO Sherry Cask is a standard, unpeated Jura, aged in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels and then finished in carefully chosen, aged Oloroso sherry casks from Jerez, Spain, imparting a unique character to this vibrant single malt. Warm honey and vanilla transform into rich plum, sweet spice, and layers of citrus. This whisky concludes with intense flavors of sherry-soaked raisins, dark toffee, coffee, and grilled banana. Jura 12YO Sherry Cask is exclusively available in Asian markets, but visitors can sample it at the distillery.

A standard single malt feel. Smells of sherry with a light sweetness.
