Journeyman Distillery Buggy Whip Wheat Organic Whiskey

This was tasted after a tour at Journeyman. It was not very memorable. The aroma was absent, and the palate offered no distinct tastes. I am uncertain of the finish's duration, mainly because its beginning was undetectable. It was smooth, I suppose, as it lacked any noticeable warmth. It's an acceptable whiskey, but it doesn't give much incentive to drink it, especially when their other selections are considerably more compelling.

Golden amber hue with attractive, viscous legs. The aroma is dry and grain-forward, accented by subtle caramel and spice. A smooth, wheated whiskey texture is apparent. There's a touch of warmth towards the end of the palate. Mint and eucalyptus intertwine, balancing sweetness at the front and the finish. Vanilla and additional spice emerge. The finish is overly sweet and sticky, with a persistent dry oak character.

Acquired this at the distillery today. The people there were wonderful and very welcoming. Minimal aroma, perhaps light cereal notes. The color is a pleasant light amber. It has a coating, buttery texture with a nice sweetness. There's a burn in the mid-palate, followed by a warm finish that gradually fades. A satisfying drink for someone new to whiskey. "Corsets, Whips & Whiskey" American Wheat Whiskey, 58.5% It definitely has a spicy character, yet is surprisingly SWEET, unlike typical bourbon sweetness. It leans more towards honey than caramel. Adding water shifts the sweetness towards caramel and pleasantly avoids a Scotch-like or peaty profile.

Excellent Bourbon! I would likely rate it 4.5 stars if possible – I would purchase and order it whenever I could. ***edit: after a second tasting, I still enjoy the whiskey (and I admit I had consumed a significant amount beforehand), but it doesn't leave as strong an impression as the first time. Perhaps closer to a 3.5 or 3.75.

This producer consistently creates excellent whiskeys that don't break the bank. This one is no exception. It's straightforward but deeply fulfilling. Caramel flavors are present from start to finish, complemented by a gentle mint sensation on the finish.
