Johnnie Walker Red (c. 1980s)

I opened a sealed, vintage 1.75L bottle. My parents had properly stored it since the 80s. Appearance: amber gold. Legs are slow, beaded, and thin. Smell: Abundant caramel and toffee. Rum raisin ice cream with a touch of honey. Lots of fruitiness and a very faint, subtle smoke. Golden sugar touches the back of the nose. Taste: Sweet with a very smooth, unobtrusive smokiness. Caramel and syrup. Some alcohol heat and warming spices, specifically cinnamon and nutmeg. Decent body with a short, dry finish. Smell (diluted): A bit more fresh fruitiness appears, but not much else changes. Taste (diluted): The alcohol burn decreases with added water. More comforting sweetness emerges. Aged smoked leather and oak. A delightful drink from a past time. Considering it's Johnnie Walker Red, it's a rather great dram!
