Johnnie Walker Old Harmony

I enjoy elusive whiskies. There's something quite special about tasting spirits that might soon be gone. This 1970s Johnnie Walker Old Harmony, a special bottling for the Taiwanese and Japanese markets fifty years ago, is one such example. Nowadays, you can only find this on the secondary market for a significant price. Bottled at 43% ABV, Johnnie Walker was still bottling their whiskies on the left side back then. On the nose, I detect almonds, a very nutty character. Pie and grain whisky. Lemon. After a first taste, I get chocolate cake. On the palate, there are only two flavors: Creamy cake and almonds. The finish mirrors the palate but with a hint of peat. Hay & vanilla custard. Overall, this is a very balanced blend, nothing extraordinary, but I imagine it was quite popular in the 70s. It's always nice to experience a piece of whisky history. My rating for it is a fair 87 out of 100.
