Johnnie Walker Explorers' Club Collection The Royal Route

The premier offering in the "Explorer's Club Collection" from Johnnie Walker, and considerably the most costly. It mirrors the "blue label" of the "explorers club collection" in all aspects; it's refined, pricey, and falls short of expectations. I possess all three Explorer's Club Collection Bottles (I believe there's a fourth, akin to red label, which I skipped; it likely tastes terrible). Previously, I sampled the "brown" boxed version, named "the spice road," a delightful whisky. The Royal Route, bottled at 40% alcohol by volume, displays a unique mahogany hue, which is unusual as it's mahogany yet also transparent; difficult to articulate, one must see it to comprehend. Overall, the bottle presents a very direct profile, lacking any complexity, which is surprising given the presumed inclusion of very aged whiskies (considering the price). On the nose, pungent peat and tobacco. That's it. Not unpleasant, but nothing remarkable either. On the palate, it's delightful. Sophisticated, aimed at an upscale audience (haha), yet it remains a blend, implying a lack of adventurousness, designed for broad appeal rather than catering to us "aspiring connoisseurs" seeking unique whisky experiences over pretension or marketing. Notes on the palate include caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, and spices; very smooth, elegant, and easily drinkable, with notes of toffee, a pleasant warmth, ginger, tobacco ash, medium body. The finish is rich in spices, also medium in length. I had been reserving this bottle for a significant occasion, but recently at a gathering, the host opened one. I couldn't resist tasting it (in fact, I consumed four glasses neat). It's a lovely Whisky, but as I've noted, it plays it safe and isn't particularly captivating to us fellow Whisky Critics. A gift for the inlaws. The packaging is overly elaborate, and the pale color was an early indicator of issues for me. Too bad I overlooked it more at the duty-free shop. I was seeking something different. For my taste, a blended Scotch needs some peat, similar to the blue or grouse labels. This one lacks significant character, though it isn't offensive. My spouse approves. Perhaps the fastest finish I've encountered in any whiskey. Unbelievable for the cost.

Quite similar to platinum; very smooth with a pleasant flavor. A step up from gold label.

Mildly piquant. Sweet undertones. Enjoyable over ice.
