Johnnie Walker Blenders' Batch Bourbon Cask & Rye Finish

This is one of the "limited" new releases from Johnnie Walker, the Blender's Batch Bourbon and Rye finish. Expect a grain presence. It costs around $75; let's see if it lives up to that price. Bottled at 40% ABV, likely with added coloring. Nose: Quite interesting. Vanilla ice cream and a banana note from the bourbon. Simultaneously, I detect the rye grain. It's sweet with a rye undertone. Very intriguing. Spiciness is subtle and pleasant, a hint of cinnamon. Perhaps some caramel too. Wetting the Glencairn's walls reveals wet rice and possibly soap, similar to Bruichladdich. Palate: The rye influence is substantial. A dry, spicy yet mild drink, very grassy, hay-like, and oily. A clove finish with a slight burning sensation; the grain influence is very noticeable here. Adding a drop of water brought out "dulce de leche" ice cream. The palate became too watery, and the finish was grainy, reminiscent of Haig Club, and grassy. Overall, I rate this dram a fair 81 out of 100. I wouldn't purchase it again, but it's not a bad drink.

The rye aroma is very subtle yet obvious right away. A very nice finish.

Heavy rye, mild spice, creamy/vanilla, and a very smooth finish.

Sweet, smooth, and velvety.

Well-balanced.
