Johnnie Walker Black Label Extra Special Old Scotch Whisky

Nose: Spices reminiscent of winter, subtle fruit, a touch of white pepper and some citrus. A smoky, peaty end. Taste: Robust and ample, featuring flavors of wood smoke and sharp spice, traces of barley and grain, alongside smooth toffee and a clear herbal characteristic. An excellent gateway to Scotch's flavor profile, providing a pleasing equilibrium of sweetness and peat. It's refined (nearly delicious).

Nose: A strong touch of sweet vanilla fruitiness with oak in the background. Ethanol hints are noticeable. Herbal and smoke aromas are also present. Taste: A rich, complex flavor where the sweet vanilla integrates smoothly with light hints of oak and smoke. A very subtle sweet vanilla and saltiness remains on the palate, with herbal notes in the background.

Testing out two distinct bottles, one originating from the 1980s and the other from 2020. A span of four decades separates them, yet both were recently uncorked. This particular assessment pertains to the 1980s bottle. When set side-by-side, this one presents as darker and more potent. A vintage spirit that's challenging to put into words; it has a smokiness without being acrid and offers abundant fruit notes, creamy vanilla, preserved apricots, and oak. Frankly, it's quite exceptional.

This is a Scotch offering that provides good value, which I would rate at 3.25. Suitable for daily drinking. Very relaxing.
