About this bottle

Bourbons in the Jefferson's Ocean Aged At Sea collection are typically aged for six to eight years on land before their barrels embark on a months-long sea journey. The OCEARCH research vessel navigates across five continents and makes stops in 30 ports. For Voyage 20, the vessel departed Savannah, Georgia, in June 2019 and returned in November 2019.

My first time sampling it straight. Aroma - sweet, oaky, salty, intensely sweet. Taste - begins very sweet overall with an excessive sugar presence. Cinnamon, a salty sweet confection that concludes rather bitter and salty. Conclusion - I'm personally glad I did not buy this bottle as I find it overpriced. The spirit is generally good, but the price point above $80 is not justified.

Compared this against voyage 16 & 19. I still find 19 to be the best I've encountered, but this is a close second. Unlike the 16, it goes down quite smoothly and has a pleasant caramel flavor (though please note my palate isn't great). I favor the 19, which is wheated, but this is smooth enough that in a blind tasting, I doubt I'd tell the difference.

Sweetness upfront, with a slight brininess on the finish. Taking that first sip and holding it allows you to bypass any burn. I wish the brininess was a bit more pronounced to create a salted caramel effect while maintaining the bite. Overall, it's great. No regrets. I'd look for it again after receiving it as a gift!

Tasted neat in a Glencairn glass. The nose is rich with corn, burnt wood, and dark cherry, plus a touch of cinnamon. The palate delivers soft, sweet, and spicy wood notes with an underlying sweetness of honey and corn. The finish is smooth, with subtle wood and vanilla undertones.

I sampled this alongside the Voyage 17. I'm a big admirer of the Voyage 17, but I believe the 20 offers superior flavor. It's a fantastic spirit with a truly satisfying finish. Everything you'd anticipate from Jefferson's!

This tastes about a decade older than it is. This spirit is smoother than others I've tried. However, it's still not worth the price. I did find a case at Costco for under $60, though.
