Jefferson's Very Small Batch Bourbon

Nose: Features notes of copper penny, corn, ethanol, and woody spice. Palate: Sweet corn, caramel, vanilla, a trace of dried red fruit, and a hint of coffee. Finish: Dried red fruit, a touch of oak, a tiny bit of spice. It has perhaps the weakest bourbon finish imaginable, short of becoming actively unpleasant. There's just not much substance there. I wanted to sample a bourbon I hadn't tried before. I've considered Jefferson's a few times - as many have - but never actually purchased it until now. This represents about the most basic bourbon profile you can find. There's nothing wrong with it, but nothing particularly stands out either. It plays it completely safe. As a result, it's entirely forgettable. Overall: Very similar to Redemption bourbon. The bottle has been sitting with an eighth left for some time now, so some of these tastes have morphed throughout its life. At the price of $35 it didn't really impress me then, and I don't think I'll buy it again. It was always quite light in flavors and quick in the finish, and while I don't mind that sometimes I prefer something more robust when I get above $30. Nose: Butterscotch and syrup. Palate: Tastes like that package of mandarin oranges you'd find in a kid's lunchbox, with a touch of vanilla and a numbing clove spice. Finish: Light and short, the mandarin orange carries through along with a white syrup.

The aroma is quite subtle, with vanilla prominently leading. Hints of honey, apple, and a touch of caramel are also noticeable. Vanilla is the primary flavor, though some white grapefruit and honey are present. It has a surprisingly oily texture for an 82 proof spirit, and the finish persists for a considerable time, bringing notes of sweetness and mild spice. Overall, it's a very straightforward bourbon, not at all extraordinary. It's remarkably smooth and an easy whiskey to drink. Exhibits a dark golden straw color with a hint of amber. Legs form slowly but are abundant. The nose presents caramel, burnt sugar, vanilla, and a significant amount of musty, stored corn. Notes of citrus oil and eucalyptus emerge. The sweetness on the palate is well-matched by barrel char and dry oak. A medium-length finish. While not overly complex, it contains all the appropriate elements. The conclusion is a pleasant fusion of vanilla and a subtle warmth from spices.

Very mild. Light on apple, vanilla, and spice flavors. In this price bracket, there are many superior bourbons. It's a decent dram for someone new to bourbon, but it's too expensive for that purpose.

Vanilla, cherry, vanilla, and caramel on the nose. The palate offered more of that, plus some oak and leather notes. Very easy to drink. Delicious.
