Jefferson's 16 Year Presidential Select Twin Oak

The color is a deep golden amber with surprisingly few legs. The initial aroma presents a pleasant rye spiciness combined with oak, vanilla, brown sugar, burnt caramel, and a hint of cherry. A very slight touch of mint emerges as it rests. The oak is not as prominent as one might expect given the age and double barreling. The aroma offers more oak while being somewhat rich. It doesn't fully coat the mouth but primarily resides on the mid-palate. Vanilla and caramel contribute some smoothness to the significant oak present. There's an attempt at rye spice but it struggles to overcome the oak. The finish is medium and, as anticipated, full of creamy oak. It's a very good bourbon for those who prefer a heavy oak presence; otherwise, it might seem rather one-dimensional. The subsequent aromas are as full-bodied as a statuesque woman. Notes of stovetop stuffing hit the palate forcefully, while subtle hints of correction fluid sting the nostrils. The lingering aromas strongly evoke what I imagine the aftershave of a certain politician smells like.

The nose has deep caramel and orchard fruit. It also features unique woody notes. On the palate, I first detect rubber tires, like being in a tire shop. Sweetness and rye notes are present, with a brief, fleeting spice. The finish is short. There's a peculiar flavor I can only describe as fragrant wood and petroleum products. It's certainly intriguing. I'll need to observe how it evolves over time. Adding a few drops of water brings out caramel notes and some astringent qualities. 12/11/17 The rubber characteristics have lessened but are still noticeable at the beginning. The flavors at the start are more intense than I recall. There's still a lot of wood. The mid-palate is very pleasant. However, the finish remains short. 1/25/18

Pleasant nose hints of a superior whiskey Oak, vanilla, caramel everything one can want in a bourbon nothing the slightest bit negative, just smooth and sweet 5/5 Palate follows through mirroring the nose, a really good pour, delicious, proof is surprisingly well chosen and not too low filling my mouth as a good whiskey should 5/5 Finish 4.5/ 5 Overall a great pour / so very well done/ exceeded my expectations...wonder what is said to be the source of the juice????

Aroma: Harmonious blend of sweet and spicy with orange and sugar, plus a touch of rye and black pepper. Body: Considerable tingle. What’s the proof?! A very nice combination of rye spice and sugary sweetness. Finish: The sweetness persists with notes of rich sweet tea and orange marmalade. Herbal/floral notes are present and complement the sweetness wonderfully. This is delightful. Enjoyed this after the inaugural tasting of Dee’s Permission with companions and another friend.

The "molten cherry/wood impact to the jaw" notes reminded a companion and me of Stagg Jr, but with less intensity. Adding a tiny amount of water boosts the underlying sweetness, tempering that intense oak character with a whisper of maple syrup and sweet, sawdust-like potatoes on the nose. A delightful drink; very different from the sadly discontinued 18-year bottle we purchased this to substitute.

This is truly elegant and smooth. A drink fit for nobility. It’s full-bodied with the flavor intricacy anticipated from 16 years in oak, and it invites passionate sipping throughout the night. The flavor profile is rich with caramel, vanilla, and sweet caramelized sugars on the palate, while the finish is creamy and long with hints of oak, caramel, and undertones of fresh tobacco.
