Jefferson's Ocean Aged at Sea Voyage 22 Special Wheated Mash Bill

A genuinely solid bourbon. I'm not adept at discerning subtle flavors, but I can speak to the overall experience: It hits a bit strongly at first, but a single, small ice cube smoothed out the rough edges and revealed a wide array of flavors. Very drinkable, full-bodied, with a delicious finish and warmth, but not overwhelming. Just enough buttery taste to make you want another small pour after each glass. If it weren't among the pricier bottles in my collection, this would automatically be my go-to choice. My only critique: I usually add one or two ice cubes, depending on my mood, and I don't have to worry too much about diluting the drink. For Voyage 22, I had to be extremely careful with the ice. One ice cube was perfect. Two, and suddenly it was over-diluted, the flavors dulled quickly, and the complexity and unique qualities that make this spirit stand out were *entirely* lost. So, if you add ice, do so very gradually. I had about half of my first pour left and actually poured a second glass to try again. It was absolutely worth it. If you have the chance, give this one a try.

This marks my third tasting of a wheated Ocean Voyage bottling, and it stands out as the best. It's not typically my preference, as it's lower in proof and lacks significant palate impact. In fact, I struggled to identify any distinct flavors on the tongue. However, it is remarkably pleasant and free of any off-putting characteristics. In contrast to the agreeable yet unremarkable palate, the finish delivers a powerful punch of charred oak and salt. Given the current difficulty in finding quality bourbon readily available, this is definitely worth its $85 cost. Note: My specific bottle is a barrel select from Total Wine, but I anticipate it's very similar to others.

I've noticed this brand on the shelves and heard a lot about this product for several years – and I've finally decided to try it! Some online reviews made me think I'd be wasting money on this purchase, but I'm quite satisfied. I can't quite identify it, but there's something unique about this whiskey. It has an almost buttery, salted caramel flavor. There's a slight bite, but it's gentle and intentional. Very pleased overall! I can see myself buying tastes of future voyages!

I've sampled this spirit on three separate occasions, allowing it to rest for a week, then a month, and then several more weeks. Initially, the aroma is appealing, reminiscent of oranges and a hint of vanilla, with minimal or no oak presence. The first sip is sweet, but it's quickly overtaken by a strong orange flavor, which then transitions into heat and a burning sensation, with a whisper of oak and more burn at the conclusion. Despite my desire to appreciate it, I cannot fully endorse this particular voyage.

Kenwood Store selection Aroma: Cherries soaked in alcohol… burnt sugar, mild cinnamon spice. It's not overly complex, but it's intriguing. Taste: Quite sweet… a caramel bomb followed by vanilla and oak. The long-lasting finish makes this a great sipper. There's even a subtle spice at the end.

Smooth, slightly viscous, and rich, with a mild alcohol warmth that smooths into a buttery finish. Initial hints of floral and spice are accompanied by a consistent saltiness, and the wheat contributes a fuller, grain-forward body. A remarkable whiskey, but quite deceptive!
