Jägermeister Cold Brew Coffee

Is this a gimmick capitalizing on the cold brew craze? Probably. But does it matter? What counts is whether the final product is any good. To that end, I followed the instructions on the back of the bottle, put the mini in the freezer, and served it ice cold. The aromas are quite unusual. You get the typical scents you'd anticipate from regular Jager--anise, caramel, various spices--but there are some interesting elements at play too. It doesn't just smell like Jager plus Coffee; it has a more earthy, "grounded" aroma. While regular Jager bombards you with scents, these seem to have settled and found their place. It's a slightly odd description, I know, but I can't describe it any other way. More intriguing than the earthy undertones are a peculiar spicy note. I even checked to see if any hot peppers were added. It's a potent spicy layer that stands out against the more elusive herbal scents. Taste-wise, the anise leads, followed by the multitude of herbs that define a regular Jager shot, but then cinnamon and allspice emerge, along with this bizarre yet pleasant flavor. It's the spice note I detected, but it doesn't taste spicy. More like wood bark with a kick? I'm as confused as you are, dear reader. It's a good flavor, though. The finish is dominated by cocoa and then the Arabica coffee, with the herbal and root flavors of regular Jager playfully complementing the finish. I'm genuinely surprised by how good this tastes. Regular Jagermeister is a difficult liqueur to work with. You can create interesting cocktails if you know what you're doing, and as a cold shot, it's a fun novelty, but you either love it or hate it. This, however? It's what I always wished a Jager shot could be, and I can envision myself buying the full 750 mL bottle and keeping it chilled. It works far better than it has any right to. From now on, if I'm having chilled Jager shots, it will be the cold brew version. Cheers!

This smells richer and more bitter than Coldcock, but with more earthiness from the coffee. The coffee brings out some interesting spiciness and sort of meatiness too. There are some regular Jagermeister scents, but there's also something that's a tad like enchiladas and/or five spice powder. Does that make any sense? No? Good. The palate has a big spicy coffee hit to it. There is some bitterness to the coffee, but spice is the defining characteristic. I get lots of allspice, then cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, ginger. It's sort of like chai. It's tasty, but confusing! There are some other herbal flavors here like the usual Jagermeister licorice, but they fall to the back, and the result is actually sweeter and lighter, surprisingly. There is a fair amount of milk chocolate too. I actually like it. It's like a more complex and interesting chai mocha frappucino. It's less rich, sweet, and chocolatey than Kahlua, but more spicy and complex. I think I'll still use Kahlua in my next tiramisu, but if I had a drink calling for a coffee liqueur, I would give this serious consideration. It's interesting and has a lot of personality. The challenging part in rating it is deciding whether the personality is a good thing, though, at the end of the day, we're talking about an herbal liqueur with a good balance and no clearly bad notes. As just an herbal liqueur, I think regular Jagermeister is better. The thing here, though, is that that weird metallic flavor is gone, and the end product is lighter and more complex. I'm actually really liking this. Wow, I really expected to be saying that this is just Jagermeister with unnecessary coffee and it's not that great and has no original characteristics. I sure misjudged this outcome. This, Coldcock, and Wild Turkey American Honey have really surprised me. I'm now seeing that this costs more than regular Jagermeister, and despite the lower ABV, I do see why. It's quite nice!

During my unusual, short-lived enthusiasm for Jagermeister, I explored its various unusual versions. This one features cold brew coffee blending with the 'Jager Cola' to create a chocolate note on the nose that resembles a 'Tootsie Roll.' The taste remains distinctively Jagermeister (licorice/fennel, cinnamon bark, etc.), but the coffee adds a nutty undertone, making it slightly more complex than the original. I prefer this over the ginger version, but I likely won't keep either in my collection.

Rating: 14/23 I've had occasional sips since my initial review, and sadly, none have been as enjoyable. I still find this quite pleasant and greatly appreciate that the intrusive cola flavor is significantly reduced. However, I believe my initial rating might have been slightly too generous. It now seems more like a 13 or 14. Given that I only had a few drops remaining for this tasting, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and rate it at 14.

It was advertised as Jägermeister with coffee, and that's exactly how it tastes. Sweet, with a bitter herbal note, anise, and dark coffee. I was surprisingly pleased with how balanced it was.

It's less intense than regular Jägermeister. Pretty smooth, and the coffee flavor is well-balanced. It's worth trying, but it won't appeal to everyone.
