Jack Daniel's Unaged Tennessee Rye

This short, bold bottle caught my attention while browsing a local big-box store. Despite my reservations about spending forty-five dollars on a Brown-Forman item (past experiences, specifically with their double-oaked variety, have been disappointing), I decided to purchase it and placed it in my cart alongside my organic produce, hummus, and shop-vac. Once home, I eagerly opened it and deeply inhaled its aroma. This caused me to cough and gag, prompting me to set the bottle aside and regard it with suspicion. After recovering, I reasoned that it was likely just the scent of an unaged rye, nothing to truly worry about. Holding the glass at arm's length, I carefully poured a serving. With a confident nod, I took a sip while breathing through my mouth. Unfortunately, I cannot claim the flavor offered any compensation for the harsh and aggressive smell. On a related note, shop-vacs are indeed very effective at removing non-Newtonian liquids from carpets.

The finest unaged spirit I've sampled. Yes, it's raw, but still good. You know how carpaccio is made with raw beef tenderloin? It's delicious! The tenderloin is better when cooked properly, but you wouldn't pass up a well-prepared carpaccio. That's how I feel about this rye. Not disappointing at all. In fact, it's much better than I anticipated. I've had three glasses from a friend's bottle, and I'll likely finish it.

It's an interesting addition to my collection for conversation. I personally don't like it. This is very odd; I have no experience with unaged rye. It resembles brewer's yeast and reminds me of the still house at Lynchburg. I haven't found a single redeeming flavor in this bottle, and I've stopped looking. Sadly, I bought two bottles because I assumed it would be a limited and hard-to-find release. How naive I was.

It's intriguing and unusual. I reckon it's strictly for the collection-minded. A little unrefined...
