J.P. Wiser's Alumni Whisky Series Larry Robinson

A really pleasing spirit! Fortunate to have secured the final bottle from the neighborhood shop. This demonstrates effectively how aging can significantly enhance a young whiskey. The nose offered abundant scents: corn's sweetness, rye's zest, vanilla, raisins, preserved fruits, honey, wood notes, followed by plums, subtle herbaceous hints, sun-dried tangerine rind (chenpi), and even faint traces of nuts and chocolate. On tasting, the initial impression was rich with spicy rye and woody tastes, progressing to raisins and dark fruits, bread, a touch of citrus, and nuts emerging near the conclusion. The finish was of moderate brevity, zesty and somewhat arid, leaving a sweet sensation. All in all, a quite engaging drink, possessing a singular flavor characteristic not previously encountered in Canadian whiskies. The port cask influences effectively mask its youth.

Smells of peach covered in brown sugar, honey, very mild grains, equally mild wood, a few dried dark berries, caramel, flamed pear, vanilla, and cinnamon. On the palate, caramel, wood, and spice, pear, cocoa, and vanilla with alcohol that isn't too overpowering. Hints of some dried dark fruits linger in the background. The finish is rather brief, especially considering the blend of flavors from the 6 casks used, but it's well-balanced and this whisky is very smooth.

I'm genuinely surprised by how much I'm liking this. It has a lot of plum, or date, or dark fruit notes. This is enveloped in caramel and corn sweetness. It's truly one-of-a-kind and worth a try. An outstanding Canadian dram.
