J.J. Corry The Gael Irish Whiskey

Nose: Abundant bright red fruits and toasted malt notes! There are hints of candied orange peel, berry syrup, oak spice, and dry shortbread cookies with a dusting of icing sugar. A touch of spice floats above all the fruit, somewhat difficult to distinguish from the ethanol burn, but it helps balance the sweetness. Palate: Thick, sweet, and syrupy on the tongue. It's an explosion of tropical fruits unlike anything I've tasted in a whiskey before! Orange and lime citrus, something akin to sweet, sweet mango, and a light honey to unify everything. There's a foundation of deeply toasted malt that is more pronounced than in many malt-forward spirits. Finish: Short to medium length and slightly dry at the back. It remains a tropical fruit powerhouse throughout, reminiscent of a stick of Juicy Fruit gum. Conclusion: I've never encountered so much tropical fruit in a whiskey! The closest I can recall is likely Teeling's Small Batch. There's a magnificent equilibrium of sweet fruit sugars, tart tropical acidity, spice, and rounded malt - all of which are quite potent within it, making the balance essential. It's somewhat expensive, but I adore the liquid and the brand, so I would purchase a bottle if I happened to find one available in the US. I find myself returning to taste it; it's refreshing and draws me back repeatedly - I believe my appreciation grows with each tasting! Once again, it consistently improves, now I definitely desire to locate a full bottle of this...

Nose: Strong tropical fruit aromas, mainly coconut, citrus/lemon, caramel, and green apple. After the initial tropical notes fade, hints of butterscotch and malt appear in the background. Taste: A balance of sweet, sour, and bitter. Notes of citrus and baked cherry pie combine well with malt and oak. Subtle coconut and apple notes are present if you look for them. It's well-balanced and pleasant. The texture was enjoyable, slightly oily and not thin. This was quite a surprise. It almost tasted like a rum due to the tropical notes, but the malt and oak brought it back to the whisky category. This is a good choice for those seeking something unique.

Nose: Tangerine, citrus fruits, cream Palate: Oaky, slightly numbing, herbal, sweet rye Finish: Long finish, apricot, vanilla, a slight bitterness at the very end This has a lovely oily, buttery texture in the mouth, very fruity all the way through to the finish. A wonderful dram. Easy to drink and quite distinct from most Scottish blends. It contains approximately 40% grain, yet it still retains ample malt character to keep it engaging. Out of the 6 spirits tasted, this received 17% of the votes for favorite, tying for second place, though the general feeling was that all 6 were too close to definitively choose.

Nose: Bright and sweet, with citrus fruits and honey, plus some apple. Delightful. Palate: A bit oily. Orange and apple are immediately noticeable. Vanilla and a hint of ginger linger. Finish: Medium length. Smooth with almost no harshness. Apples are the last flavor to fade. Overall: This is a delightful whiskey. It's not harsh or overly demanding on the palate, with very little alcohol burn. A delicious blend of flavors. I bought this a year ago and have never regretted it. A great whiskey for relaxing. Thank goodness for the Banner County!

Nose: Light and sweet, with notes of vanilla, fruits, and citrus zest. Palate: Tastes like buttered white bread, lemon pith, and hints of nutmeg. Finish: Reminiscent of trail mix, with dried fruit, nuts, and milk chocolate pieces.
