Iowa Legendary Rye Black Label

Nose: dark fruit, dark caramel Palate: cherry pie, sugary candy. Mouthfeel: viscous, heavy. Overall: Starts with a nice rye sweetness. Spoiled by cloying sugar, leaving a strange dampness with no rye spice. Finishes with cheap licorice. Unimpressed. A brief pleasant moment followed by confusion. What just happened?

It has a pleasant mouthfeel; a friend at the bar mentioned it's tough to find (small batch perhaps?), and I can see the appeal. Quite enjoyable.
