Huling station very small batch

This is an interesting product. It's 100 proof. Half is a high-rye bourbon (52% corn, 44% rye, 4% malted barley) contract distilled by MGP. The other half is wheat whiskey (83% wheat, 12% corn, 5% malted barley). There's no age statement, but it's very dark. Produced in ultra-small batches of 6-10 barrels. The aging location is unknown. This is a first pour. It has a very dark copper color with slow-forming legs. The nose is reserved but shows typical barrel aromas first: caramel transitioning to vanilla, then a hint of nutmeg, and some damp grass in the background. Very little alcohol is detectable. The palate begins with creme brulee but develops slowly. There's a touch of green apple and a slightly bitter edge, suggesting some underdeveloped alcohol. The color implies 8-10 years of aging, but that bitter edge suggests more likely 4 years. I would describe the finish as crisp and clean, with the green apple flavor lingering for a while. I find this appealing and it's reasonably priced. Next time, I will try their straight bourbon.

The nose presents notes of chocolate, caramel, melon, black pepper, cherry, corn, and oak. The palate is sweet, with flavors of corn, caramel, cherry, cinnamon, black pepper, and vanilla.

Found it enjoyable, with pleasant flavors. Sweet, but with a good kick. Notes of vanilla and caramel. A cube made it nice and smooth.

Tastes like cooked cabbage. It has a persistent astringency. I'm not sure what else to say about this.
