Hugh Hammer Double Oaked Crown Liquors SP

First pour, fresh from the bottle. Nose: Surprisingly, no harsh alcohol despite being a neck pour. Instead, you're greeted with a pleasant wave of charred oak, burnt caramel, and grapes. As it sits, notes of cinnamon, black pepper, and other spices begin to appear. I am very (and contentedly) surprised by the initial impression this bottle provides. Palate: (after a 30-minute rest) This definitely drinks like a high-rye bourbon. Oak and spices hit you immediately, followed by notes of caramel. With continued sipping, the spice intensity softens, and the caramel becomes more prominent. It's not overly complex, but it doesn't need to be. The finish is drier and longer than anticipated. I must say, this bottle surpassed my expectations. I was anticipating a very average, young bourbon. However, I received a very smooth and spicy experience. Would I rush to recommend this bottle to everyone I know? Not entirely. But if you're looking to support a local distillery and get a good bottle in return, this is it.
