Maudie John 2.8

I was thrilled to acquire this bottle. A bourbon made locally, with a bottle design featuring a pride flag, and from a distillery owned by a veteran with a disability – what's not to admire? It embodies the spirit of the country I'm proud to be a part of, and its flavor reflects that. It's a bit inclusive, a bit wild, and free to express its true nature. The aroma is powerful and alcoholic, almost like ethanol, with significant corn presence and the scent of damp, fallen leaves in late autumn. It offers a generally comforting, earthy aroma. The palate is quite pleasing. It begins sweet and slightly floral, reminiscent of honeysuckle and rosewater. It's nicely balanced, then delivers a strong wave of spice. It's certainly the spiciest bourbon I've encountered. I can detect a high rye content; it hits you with the intensity of wasabi or horseradish. As someone who favors spicier, high rye bourbons, I understand this might not appeal to everyone. The finish provides the expected slow dissipation of the spice's warmth. I had high hopes for this whiskey, but ultimately, it's a bit straightforward. It lacks any distinctive or remarkable qualities, presenting as a solid yet standard high rye bourbon. However, for a distillery's debut bourbon, I'm very impressed and eagerly anticipate their future releases!
