First smell, it presents as mature. Oak, caramel, vanilla, and a settled, aged whiskey character. Absolutely nothing sharp or odd. It just has the air of having been around for a long time and possessing inherent confidence. Upon tasting, it's smooth and abundant. Caramel and vanilla are immediately present, followed by a dark sweetness, and oak positioned perfectly. It drinks with ease for its proof. Then, the finish arrives and seems to retire early. It's good, just less potent than I'd hoped. I desired a bit more impact at the conclusion. This pairs wonderfully with something flavorful but not overpowering. A Black Label Royalty works well – rich, dark, edgy, and it compensates for the finish the bourbon leaves you wanting. A truly solid combination. In summary, Hooter Young Jack Carr Warrior Proof Special 16 Year Reserve is aged, smooth, and very pleasing. I just wish the finish had a stronger presence to really solidify it.
