High West Bourye (2025 Release)

I purchased this for a special vacation treat. A bright nose filled with honey, vanilla, oak sawdust, nuts, cherry, peach—and naturally, corn and rye. The age is apparent on the tongue as a smooth, intricate sip. The aromas from the nose reappear, with cherry and apple taking a prominent role. Pecan and mild baking spices are present. There's a lot going on, and I believe more flavors can be uncovered. However, if I didn't know any better, I would think it was a fruity bourbon. The cherry pie finish could last a little longer. Still, it's very good. Does it warrant the price point, which unfortunately for me was $10 above the suggested retail? As a practical person who can find better whiskies for less money, I would have to say no. I expect more pronounced flavors and a higher proof for anything over $100. Enthusiasts with ample funds might feel differently.

Nose: Faint, mellow oak, vanilla, pineapple, powdered sugar, honey, and red apples. Taste: Immediately light and sweet, with very gentle oak and powdered sugar. A small tingle of rye spice and tart red apple appears on the sides of the tongue. It's relatively straightforward but quite enjoyable to drink. Finish: A light, lingering finish that teases a bit more oaky sweetness and red apple skins with a hint of rye spice.

I decided to purchase this bottle I had been considering, and I'm pleased with the decision. Tasted neat. On the nose, I detect notes of apricot, honey, clove, and cinnamon. The palate is initially hot but then mellows out. I need to revisit this as I'm running late for an international folk art festival!

Thanks to a friend! The nose features leather, rye, grape, oak, caramel, charcoal, herbs, and vanilla. The palate has oak, pepper, vanilla, and charcoal. The finish is peppery.
