Hillbilly Bourbon

An intense, high-proof Bourbon aged in new charred American oak barrels, produced in Lawrenceburg, Indiana & bottled in South Carolina. It begins delicately with notes of sweet oak & spices; its full-bodied & balanced character develops notes of vanilla, caramel & a touch of tobacco; culminating in an intense & extra-long finish with warm notes of spice & toasted rye. This is a budget bourbon for mixing, not for sipping. I'm not providing extensive details on flavor profiles, notes, and finish because my bourbon/whiskey palate is still developing, having tracked over 50 tastings but fewer than 100 as of 2022. (This count includes everything appreciated outside of shots and mixers, not just consumed).

This was a surprise. I anticipated less flavor from a bourbon at this age and price point, but it's actually quite good. Compared to another bourbon I tried recently, this is stellar. It lacks a finish, but for a 101 proof bourbon, it drinks like an 80 proof. Smooth. Absolutely worth the $23 I paid. Keep producing this, producer!

This bourbon is made with 78% corn, 18% rye, and 4% malted barley. It's produced in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and put into bottles in South Carolina. The color is amber, and it gives off aromas of spice and vanilla. On the palate, you'll find caramel and vanilla, with a rye finish.

The nose smells like nail polish remover with a faint hint of decaying wood. The taste is much better than the smell suggests. It's not very complex, primarily offering heat with a slight tingle on the tongue. A trace of nail polish remover persists on the finish. Perhaps it would work well mixed with ginger ale?

It's alright. Sweet with a touch of honey at first, followed by a mild burn and a hint of oak. This would be neck and neck with Rebel Yell. It's not an amazing whiskey, but it's a pretty decent one considering the cost.
