Highland Park Single Cask Series "Arne"

A friend recently acquired this exclusive from Total Wine. It's an incredibly scarce bottling from a single barrel! In my opinion, it's a worthwhile purchase. From the 2018 distillation (produced in 2004 - aged 13 years), bottled at cask strength at 63% alcohol by volume, and finished in a re-used Sherry cask. On the nose, there's a pleasant Sherry essence, with pronounced notes of honey, supple leather, and a hint of rose. A persistent fresh pear note is also present. The palate is slightly intense, but not unpleasant. It has a satisfying warmth with minimal harshness. The honey flavor continues, accompanied by notes of oak and black pepper. Absolutely no smoky or peaty character. The finish maintains its warmth for an extended period. The pepper sensation remains on the back of the mouth, still coated with honey. One member of our group mentioned that it brings to mind a cozy cabin nestled in the high Sierra Nevada mountains, with snow falling outside and a roaring fire within.

Fantastic! I admit I'm a bit partial since Highland Park introduced me to whisky. So, I generally enjoy the signature taste of Highland Park. This expression, however, takes that to another level. The 126 proof delivers an extra punch with the familiar mild smoke, honey, and dark fruit, plus a distinct mocha note that's wonderful on the nose. The palate delivers 120%. I was thrilled with it. It's the best bottle I've bought for over $150. Highland Park consistently meets my expectations.

Very intricate, spicy, and hot (as expected with the ABV). It has notes of honey and clove, with some sawdust. Sweet at the beginning with a brief finish

The nose was intriguing and pleasing, with clove and fresh sawdust. Honey, tartness, spice, and pepper were also detected. It concluded with a nice, smooth finish.
