This particular bottle differs slightly from the one mentioned in the post but is quite similar. Barrel #: 21859. Acquired for: Liquor Barn. Aged for: 8 months in Oloroso Sherry. The cask type is significant, wouldn't you agree? The nose features grape/raisin initially, followed by hints of vanilla and sour cherries. The body has notes of stone fruits, more vanilla, and significant oak, typical of a double-oaked product or one using bottle inserts. Oak persists through the finish, along with cherry and baking spices. The Oloroso influence typically enhances raisin and wood characteristics, and this is no exception. The oak is initially overpowering for me but becomes more agreeable as I continue drinking. A well-executed finish from High West, which is so characteristic of them that we sometimes overlook it. I continue to appreciate these double rye selections.
