I'm getting accustomed to the rye aroma; this is a somewhat different rye, perhaps due to its age, it doesn't seem mature enough. It's still very good for a whiskey. It delivers heat with its high proof, which is balanced by ice. The aroma is pleasant and not overwhelming. Light caramel or perhaps vanilla. I enjoy rye, but maybe not double rye. Still a really enjoyable sipper.

About this bottle
This particular expression is a single barrel selection from High West's Double Rye. It is created from a combination of two rye whiskeys: one from MGP in Indiana (95% rye, 5% barley malt mash bill) and another made by High West (80% rye, 20% malted barley mash bill). Prior to bottling, this expression undergoes a finishing period in syrah wine casks.

The aroma has leather and berries. Perhaps some Apple Jacks cereal? The palate is quite mellow/sweet, like a surprisingly appealing older woman. Like Helen Mirren. You know you'd be interested. Finish includes, believe it or not, nuts and cinnamon.
This is a great bottle. Abundant ripe red fruits and caramel, some spice. If it had spent more time in the barrel, I think it would be much better. Still good. Would buy another.
Tasted neat. The nose presents as sweet, spicy blackberry cream. The taste begins with sweet blackberry, followed by spice and dryness, leading to a long, dry, spicy wine finish.
Sweet aroma. Dried out my tongue like a dry red wine. After swallowing, it makes the mouth pucker slightly. Nice aftertaste.
A lovely reddish hue. Spicy rye notes with hints of fruit and an intense finish.
