Wow. Overwhelmed by tannins. I detect mild toffee and a hint of berries, followed by a powerful wave of tannic oak, along with some herbal notes and spice. Anise and oak dominate the long, dry finish. To be completely honest, this one wasn't really to my taste. I haven't tried any previous editions, so I'm unsure how earlier batches have been. It wasn't terrible, but I wasn't a fan.
