High Coast Älv

Nose: First impression is fresh, fizzy almost! More than a touch of lemons. This is followed by vanilla, melted butter and various floral notes that can be twisted and turned as you nose it. Very delicate, but still quite intense somehow! Palate: Sponge cake, drenched in melted butter and vanilla, without being too sweet. This is really good. Some minor bitterness, but not to the point that it’s disturbing. It packs much more taste than your average young un-peated whisky. Really great! Finish: Medium in length. More vanilla, very pure. After a while there’s just a hint of white chocolate. Not quite on par with the nose and the palate, but still good. Overall: An excellent execution of a young bourbon-cask matured whisky, evident of a competent distillate and the balls to let it show. The result is a delicate, yet rich and vibrant whisky. I score it 4.0 which is the mark of a great whisky (though in the lower end of great).

Nose: Subtle vanilla notes, oak, a hint of berry. Mouth: Vinous, yeasty, possibly autumn apple, overripe yellow pears. Somewhat thin and alcoholic but quite peppery, which provides good balance. Sweetness reminds me of fresh white dog spirit. Finish: Light oak, slightly bitter and spirity. Not a fantastic experience but acceptable. Overall: A dram I think is better suited for the warmer months of summer. An alternative that I believe is similar to this is Teeling Rum Cask.

Subtle scents of vanilla and banana bubblegum. Slightly alcoholic. Tastes better than it smells. Smooth without being distinctive. A bit dull and definitely not worth the price. However, it's an acceptable introductory drink. Light flavors of vanilla and green apples.

This is an excellent whisky, brimming with vanilla notes. A complete vanilla and fruit explosion. Apples and pears with a light palate, completely lacking smoke. A pleasant bourbon-matured whisky.

Apple and vanilla are present in both the scent and flavor. It's a bit rough overall, but the pronounced peppery vanilla compensates for it.

Simple round smell with a full-bodied but one-dimensional taste, herbs, almond, and a lot of oak/bark character.
