Hewn Spirits in Pennsylvania crafts this American single malt from barley grown and harvested within 10 miles of its facility. The whiskey is aged using repurposed staves made from reclaimed wood, such as hickory, chestnut, or oak, salvaged from old structures or boats. Following maturation, Hewn Reclamation American Single Malt is bottled at 45% ABV.

I have a 325ml bottle of this. It's quite unique, and you can definitely tell it's a young spirit. The taste is strongly reminiscent of unaged liquor, which it essentially is. While the concept is original, and the inclusion of various aged woods does bring some intriguing elements, it lacks the depth and mellow character of a well-matured whiskey.
Evokes hickory wood.
