Herradura Reposado Tequila

My prior tequila review was enjoyable enough to prompt me to seek out "More Please Suh," so here it is. Smell: Incredible... Aromatic profile is smoky, sweet, and spicy with abundant flavor, making me regret not sampling this brand sooner. Scotch enthusiasts, pay attention; this has an exciting aroma that hints at excellence, but will the taste match the anticipation? Taste: Begins subtly, then develops into a potent agave-infused burn. The sweetness and smoke detected on the nose are present. It lingers a bit longer than I prefer, but it's not excessive. The concluding notes offer a hint of acrid, baked sprout alongside a roasted sugar character quite distinct from bourbon sugars. Mild black pepper notes are present, but not overly strong. It's reasonably pleasant, and while the body doesn't quite match the nose's character and excitement, it's not far off. It's accurate to say the "smoke" leans more towards a scotch style than a mesquite variety found in some American spirits, which wasn't expected but is still agreeable. For a tequila at a moderate price point, this is definitely a bottle suitable for sipping or mixing. However, I wouldn't want to mask its character with excessive lime in a margarita; it holds its own quite well. Cheers!

This surpasses the Blanco significantly. It's light and herbaceous with pleasant citrus notes. Sweetness mingles with the grass and prominent lemon/lime flavors. Hints of butterscotch appear, along with a bit of sweet, rich nuttiness, reminiscent of peanut brittle. It might not taste as potent as 1800 Reposado, but it's close and boasts many good flavors with solid richness. It's remarkable how much of an improvement this is over the Blanco. The nose is somewhat sweet and intriguing, with notes of hay, strawberry, white pepper, and light caramel. The palate is balanced, moderately strong, and presents an interesting array of flavors. I detect grassy notes mixed with pineapple, lime, brown sugar, and white pepper. It has a slight fiery quality, but in an appealing way. It's sweet, fruity, herbal, and earthy. Some scotch-like smoke is also present, as is nice vanilla. There's definitely some clove, which isn't my favorite. However, the agave presence is quite strong, which is very pleasing. While the hay flavor isn't my favorite, it makes for an interesting sip.

A clean Agave Spirit from Brown - Forman Distillery in Lowland, Mexico. It is distilled twice in pot stills and aged for 11 months in new American white oak barrels. It begins with aromas hinting at cooked agave, ginger snaps, anise, fruits, toffee, dill, and sage; while a rich and delicate character adds notes of vanilla butter, dried fruits, dry oak, sandalwood, spice, and beeswax; concluding in a quick and balanced finish with a touch of cinnamon, white pepper, honey, and linseed oil. May 2017 / August 2022

Pours with a straw hue. The aroma is dominated by alcohol, with subtle notes of agave and a whisper of vanilla. The palate offers cooked agave, mild smoke, vanilla, and black pepper, while the alcohol scent fades during tasting. It has a moderate mouthfeel and a medium finish. This is a solid, budget-friendly reposado. I enjoyed the Herradura Silver, and this reposado presents more vanilla and smoke. The silver was somewhat "earthier," though not unpleasantly so. I'd suggest trying either.

Drinking it straight. The aroma is nice. Agave, sweet toffee, vanilla, some fruit, and minimal heat. The flavor follows suit. It has a moderate body. Sweet wood, agave, mild toffee, a hint of vanilla, pears, and chocolate emerge later. The finish presents some sourness, caramelized sugar, wood notes, and artificial sweetness. It's decent. Additives are present but not overdone. While it's not my top pick for an añejo, especially considering the cost, it surpasses many others and is readily available at numerous bars.

Neat. The nose is sweet, with strong red caramel apple, vanilla, oak, and herbal notes, plus a little heat. The taste features honey/caramel, candied apple, vanilla, anise, oak, and a sweet sucralose finish with cinnamon, anise, and allspice. Medium mouthfeel. It's undeniably tasty and reminds me of autumn. However, it seems to contain some additives given the caramel, sweetness, and apple notes.
