Hennessy Black Cognac

I just realized I haven't reviewed this Cognac before, even though there aren't that many available. On the nose, there's pear, white grape, and apple, but they're masked by strong alcohol (from a new bottle). The taste is similar, but the apple turns into applesauce with lots of cinnamon, and the pear distinctly becomes d'Anjou. Sweet tea fades into the finish, with a touch of white peach. Besides being a straightforward and sweet Cognac suitable for warmer weather, it's also the second-best option I've found for mixing with Benedictine (Courvoisier is the best), which enhances its value.

The nose is strong and fruity. The palate is warm and oily with a touch of honey. The oily notes persist in the finish with added bitterness and a mild burn.

A relative brought this for Christmas Eve. It's pleasant and smooth, with distinct citrus notes. Otherwise, it has the usual vanilla and oak flavors.

It has fruity notes without being overpowering, and it's very smooth on the palate. The lingering citrus, slight oak, and spice last a long time. Quite pleasant.

Lacks flavor and smoothness. Barely drinkable even when diluted with ice. For the same price, you could get Remy 1738.

It's lighter and brighter than the VS but not as mellow as the Pure White. Still a solid choice, though.
