About this bottle

Hemingway Rye Whiskey First Edition, named in honor of Ernest Hemingway, is a blend of straight rye whiskeys. It comprises 94% 9-year-old Indiana straight rye and 4-year-old Kentucky straight rye. After blending, the whiskeys were finished in rum-seasoned oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 100 proof. This broader release in April 2023 follows the initial limited collector's edition, which sold out within a week of its fall 2022 debut. The approximate retail price is $109.99.

I found this at a resort bar where I was staying in Key West. It's produced locally and named after a famous writer. I have to say, I was quite impressed, so much so that I ordered another serving. The aroma had a blend of elements, particularly brown sugar/caramelized sugar scents with a touch of vanilla, giving it a slight creme brulee essence. The taste featured more vanilla and a hint of burnt sugar. What enhanced it further was the prominent rye spice, which later yielded to oak and leather on the lingering finish. A slight ethanol burn subsided after the initial sips, making the rest of the experience smooth. I recommended it to fellow drinkers, and we nearly finished the entire bottle. If you're in the Key West area, I suggest you look for it and give it a try.

Precious Galvan 4.8

The aroma is full of baked rye bread, some vanilla, and hints of oak and alcohol. The texture is incredible, very creamy on the palate. It feels like I'm "eating" this Rye as much as drinking it. There are clear rye notes, with the initial taste being vanilla and bread, but quickly followed by the spice, ground pepper, and heat of the Rye. This is 100-proof and makes its strength known! The finish is warm and pleasant. No "Kentucky Hug" In summary, this is well worth finding. If you come across it, be sure to sample it!!!

Bobbie Lincoln 4.3

An excellent rye that balanced classic spicy/floral rye characteristics with softer vanilla, dried fruit, and caramel notes, reminiscent of a "Kentucky style" rye.

Delmar Kendrick 4.3

I really enjoy this one. The rye is direct, but the aging is evident. The rum and sherry components harmonize beautifully. A highly enjoyable finished rye that's worth seeking out if you appreciate that style of dram.

Jarrod Marquez 3.5

Inviting aroma, not overly warming on the palate. The glass shows thick streaks. I'm curious to sample the distillery's rum offering. It's decent.

Denis Rasmussen 3.8

Very sweet and robust high-rye content, an excellent full-bodied rye, with hints of menthol and mint, and a great spiciness resembling white pepper,
