About this bottle

Independent bottler Heartwood, owned by whisky enthusiast Tim Duckett, has released the Devil May Care, a 14-year-old whisky from Sullivans Cove. This expression was matured in an ex-bourbon barrel. Alongside other whiskies in Heartwood’s collection, it represents some of the most aged Australian whiskies available. This particular tasting involved bottle number 125 out of a total production of 180 bottles.

This isn't the Heartwood I sampled, but it's not listed here. I had a small measure of the Heartwood 2006 10yo Tasmania Distillery Port Sherry Finish 500ml 62.50%. It was my birthday, and after drinks with some friends, including a high-alcohol imperial stout, things got hazy. To make a long story short, a friend still cared for me enough to take me to a favorite pasta place where the server presents dishes with a flourish, and then to a spot for dessert that offered half-measures of this at cost price, which was fortunate. It tasted robust and full, with a mild burn and a very long finish of toasted nuts and baked apple and rhubarb pie. Or perhaps not, I was quite intoxicated by then. I called in sick for work the next day. As usual.
