Green River Full Proof Single Barrel Bourbon

A single barrel cask strength straight bourbon whiskey, edition number one, from a North Carolina ABC store, at 61.9% ABV. It's a non-age statement, but rumor has it that it's a mix of 5 and 7 year old bourbons. I drank it neat. It looks golden brown with average legs in the glass. The aroma is light, with floral grain and vanilla notes. The taste starts with tannic oak, char, vanilla, and a strong ethanol hit. It's dry and dusty, with grassy spice, followed by brown sugar sweetness. The mouthfeel is oily and coating. The aroma and taste are very different. The finish begins with that hot, spicy mouthfeel and becomes a bit sweet and sour under a spicy, oaky base. It has a long, tingling finish. After sitting open in the glass for thirty minutes, this bourbon is evolving, softening, and the butterscotch sweetness is increasing against the tannic oak. Adding ice reduces the heat but not the smoky, tannic character. While the flavors aren't very well integrated, each component is good by itself. It's intriguing, not straightforward,

Purchased this pick from Turtle Creek in Bethlehem, GA. A superb bottle. The aroma is quite good considering the proof, but the taste immediately lets you know it's higher proof. An amazing finish that provides warmth and lasts a good while. Fantastic vanilla notes and it made contact with the palate in many ways. My only significant critique is that it's a bit drying on the tongue, but I would definitely buy this again, especially for the $50 price point.

Nose: Very sweet. Classic caramel, vanilla, and a hint of honeysuckle. Palate: Thick and full mouthfeel, with strong oak presence and abundant sweet flavors. Finish: The finish is remarkably long, with notes of cotton candy and charged oak. This is such an amazing single with tons of sweet flavors. My first experience with Green River, and I'm interested in trying their other offerings.

The taste experience is an engaging journey – it starts sweet, transitions to a spicy black pepper, and concludes with a leathery finish. I found it to be excellent, offering a diverse range of flavors that would satisfy any bourbon enthusiast.

A brief impression from the Whiskey in the Winter St. Louis Whiskey Festival: The aroma has vanilla and maple. The taste is nutty, and the finish is nice and medium to long. Excellent. This distillery delivers a great full-proof pour once again.

At first, after opening, it was too strong and dominated by ethanol, but it needed time to settle. Afterward, stone fruits appeared alongside vanilla, spice, and oak flavors, and it has a pleasant creamy mouthfeel.
