About this bottle

The premium orange liqueur Grand Marnier Cuvée Louis Alexandre is named in honor of Louis-Alexandre Marnier Lapostolle. He is credited with the concept of blending cognac with orange liqueur in 1880, a creation that later became widely known as Grand Marnier. This particular bottling consists of 82% VSOP cognac, aged in both Tronçais and Limousin French oak, and 18% Liqueur d'orange. It has an alcohol content of 40% ABV and became available in limited amounts starting in March 2019.

Poured neat in a mini snifter at home. Bought on sale for $44.99 at Morris Miller in DC. Absolutely gorgeous bottle. Tasted right after my first tasting of standard GM. Nose has the anticipated orange peel presence, but is less one-note than GM, with citrus and grape coming through in a more pronounced way. Taste is wonderful bittersweet orange candy with vinous notes coming in and out. This is great stuff. 8/14/19

Underrated here. Much less sweet, it's a good but unremarkable cognac with a great orange aroma. Far superior to the basic Rouge. While the 1880 is objectively better, this offers much better value.

The only instance I recall drinking this neat was during a train journey in Canada. Despite that, it's enjoyable, and I frequently use it in mixed drinks, possibly to its detriment.

Far too sweet. A good spirit, but not at this price. It would be good if the overpowering sweetness was reduced, even at half the retail price.
