Good Times Rye Toasted Cherry Vanilla

This relationship started poorly when I got this bottle in a trade – one bottle I found undrinkable, the other person found undrinkable. My idea was that something interestingly bad is better than something boringly bad, like standard microdistillery products (Still Austin). When I received this bottle, it tasted like cherry cough syrup, and no amount of mixing could mask the flavor. I considered pouring it down the drain many times, but instead, months passed, and it mellowed after being open for over a year. I ended up quite enjoying the last third of the bottle when I could appreciate the blend of the standard 95/5 MGP Rye with the more unusual flavors from the finishing casks. However, I don't think I'm convinced by the type of experimental finishing Good Times is doing, and I won't be participating in future group selections.
