Glenora Fiddler's Choice

Upon arriving in PEI from Canada's Pacific coast, I was curious to try this bottle during my two-week visit to Atlantic Canada, which is now concluding (along with the bottle). Aroma: Primarily ripe fruits, especially peaches, with some light citrus notes like grapefruit and lemon zest. There's a subtle hint of freshly cut grass. I don't detect much oak or other elements, and my initial feeling was that it smelled young, which was confirmed when I learned it was 6 years old. Palate: Sweet vanilla is present initially and remains prominent throughout. Mild cinnamon spice appears, with some brown sugar in the background. There's a slight citrus taste mid-palate. Finish: Surprisingly lengthy, offering a pleasant grainy, chewy sensation. A persistent warmth aligns with its young age. Overall, this was unexpectedly good. It tastes young but shows significant promise. So much so, I've purchased a bottle of their 10-year-old single malt (Glen Breton) to try when I get back!

This was difficult to locate. I had to drive to British Columbia, Canada, to find the last bottle at a Canadian liquor store. It was definitely worth the journey. Yes, it's a Canadian whiskey, but don't let that mislead you. This bottle justified the trip. It's 86 proof, and this whiskey is very smooth to drink. It has subtle, sweet notes that are somewhat reminiscent of Japanese whiskey, but with very different flavors. The aroma is a blend of grapefruit, dried apricots, ginger, and sweet frosting. It has a delightful, decadent scent. The taste closely mirrors the aroma, with the addition of light musk, hints of dry-roasted hazelnuts, hot popcorn, and a lingering licorice note. Overall, it's quite good and very distinctive.

Aged six years in bourbon barrels - cork closure - 43% ABV. It tastes young, but a faint hint of sweetness and clear scotch influence make it enjoyable.
