Started with bottle "0" from a friend today. They provided 2 beautiful blind samples as a participant in the GCBS Sample Swap. Love working on blind samples. I primed my palate with a small sip of Benchmark. I actually like Benchmark; don't judge. On to the sample. Color, as you can see, is a beautiful golden. It has some decent legs but nothing spectacular. Nose is a great sweet butterscotch and toffee. I sense a slight hint of oak. Texture is light. Palate has that same sweetness from the nose. A small amount of spiciness. Reminds me of Indian Creek Bondhouse and Balcones True Blue. Finish has some dark chocolate-like notes. Medium length. Proof is 114. High Proof like I love. This is an amazing dram for me.

A different experience... medium amber hue with slow-moving legs. The aroma offered butterscotch, initially mistaken for butter, then milk chocolate and an odd saltiness, alongside ethanol. The taste featured cooked pears, leather, and a caramel hint in the finish that extended into ripe banana and more butterscotch. There was almost no spice, but a mild ethanol burn was felt at the back of the tongue and throat. I'm guessing an ester from their unique yeast, combined with oak char, creates the distinctive butterscotch. Due to its uniqueness, I'll probably keep it on hand and revisit it when the weather is right for sitting by a campfire.

Batch 88, bottle 147, 108 proof. The aroma presents solvent, milk chocolate candies (like M&Ms), stale corn, sugared cherry, a touch of sweetness, and some cardboard. I appreciated the aroma after overcoming the solvent scent. The taste was underwhelming. Sharp alcohol and quite basic. It didn't match the scent. The finish was practically nonexistent. It's an immature spirit, potentially containing heads and extending too far into the tails. Nevertheless, I found the aroma absolutely delightful!! Then again, I adore M&Ms.

A chocolate sensation emerges on the finish. Quite intriguing and a fantastic bourbon
