Glenmorangie Artein

Nose: Sweeter than a typical Scotch on the nose, the red wine finish doesn't affect me nearly as much as most Sherry finishes do. It is a pleasant nose, but nothing is particularly striking. Often times I get "jammy" on the nose of whiskeys finished in red wine, but this one doesn't quite reach that point. Not a criticism, just an observation! Palate: Wow! Creamy, smooth, fruity. All of those flavors and sensations abound before the traditional Glenmorangie notes emerge at the end. I don't often use the term "crushable" with single malts, but that's how I'd describe this one. This is the whiskey you use for the friend who says they don't like whiskey. If they don't like this one, then they truly don't like whiskey. It's very light on the palate, but still somehow rich. There is absolutely no burn here at all. Finish: I'm not getting a ton of the red wine finish like I do in some other whiskeys, but this just works. It seems perfectly dialed in, with the finish removing any hint of an edge. I'm getting something on the palate into the finish transition that I can't quite identify. It might be Smarty or some other hard candy flavor. Take your time with this one. I wish this wasn't a limited edition!

NOSE Sweetness reminiscent of golden grapes, kouign amann, toasted graham crackers, vanilla bean, green apples, buttery baked goods, and a hint of baking spice with a touch of earthiness. This has a rich and velvety texture. The aroma is incredibly intricate. PALATE Golden grape sweetness, toasted graham cracker, vanilla bean, spiced citrus, honey, dried orchard fruit, buttery pastries, and a hint of nuttiness and floral notes. The palate is somewhat subdued, lacking the same depth and complexity as the aroma. It's slightly lighter and more floral. FINISH Medium-long -> Sweet grape notes, malt, graham cracker, and some dried orchard fruit fade out, leaving a trace of floral oak.
