Diageo's Distillers Edition Collection offers a limited, yearly release of single malt Scotch whiskies. Each expression undergoes a second maturation in a cask previously seasoned with a specific fortified wine chosen to enhance the existing whisky. These finishing casks are constructed with new wood ends that have been heavily charred and then recharred American oak casks, which are subsequently seasoned with the fortified wine for a month. Following this, the mature whisky is transferred to these seasoned casks for a period of up to six months. For the Glenkinchie Distillers Edition, the base whisky is Glenkinchie 12 Year Old, and the fortified wine used for seasoning is Amontillado sherry. This release became available in the United States in April 2023, with a suggested retail price of $85.
