Glengoyne 30 Year It appears I cannot add the whisky tonight... so I suppose I will write this and see if the system for distillers ever functions correctly. It did, but there is an error, and the ABV is incorrect, 46.8% Nose – A distinct and strong oak character is present in this one. Beyond that are dark fruits, yet also a sweet and bright malt that is somewhat surprising. My understanding is that this is a blend of first-fill and refill sherry, unlike the 21 and 25 which are entirely first-fill. I am also uncertain if they use some American oak here instead of exclusively European. It would not surprise me if some American oak is included. Taste – Oak remains in the flavor; this is genuinely one of the more oak-forward Scotches I have encountered. The sherry casks naturally contribute everything you desire from sherry along with the oak. Dark fruits, raisins, chocolate, plums, and the oak adds spices as well. Just when you think it might be slightly oak-bitter, the whisky transitions to what almost seems like juicy fruit and oak, along with raisins and brown sugar. Glengoyne rarely inspires lengthy descriptions; it is a sherry showcase that, in this instance, incorporates many very pleasing cool oak elements that might deter some. This is my preferred style, but their basic malt is quite simple, and with that, you don't get much added depth. 4.0 – outstanding whisky, but at $600, I'm unsure if outstanding is sufficient for most. However, another bottle from a different batch may be in my future. The quality is absolutely present.
