Glenfiddich 25 Year Rare Oak

I suspect this whisky review might provoke disagreement. I've sampled some older Glenfiddichs, and my general view on this major single malt producer is that certain (most) premium expressions are created solely to attract affluent consumers rather than to offer anything truly special for whisky enthusiasts like myself. I recognize that 'fiddich has a core fruity character, but I genuinely believe they possess a spirit with evolving flavors, yet they don't fully explore it in some high-priced expressions. My theory is they do this because most inexperienced drinkers prefer something smooth over bold and intriguing. With that said; this 25yo Rare Oak is bottled at 43% ABV and has a golden hue. On the nose, abundant fresh fruits. Grape juice, white wine, and cotton candy. A very fresh green apple aroma. Not much else, though it's not an unpleasant aroma. The palate is its strongest aspect. Cotton candy, subtle sugar, moon pie. Very grape-like and spicy. Gooseberries and Chocolate. The aftertaste is decent. Pepper, hay, subtle sugar, and grapes. Overall, as you might infer from the brief description of this whisky's characteristics, it lacks significant complexity. Is it good? Yes, it's incredibly easy to drink, and you will undoubtedly enjoy a measure, but one expects much more from a 25-year-old single malt, labeled "rare oak," and belonging to the world's best-selling whisky distillery. The absence of complexity prevents it from scoring higher than 87 points in my evaluation system.

I'm not a fan of Glenfiddich at all but this one is really good. Of course if you don't consider its price. It's true rare aged whisky with very delicate aroma and strong taste, which could help to revive the brand, but there are so many options in this price range!
