Glendronach 29yo, Single Cask Hand Filled, Cask 2463, Oloroso Sherry.

During visits to the Glendronach distillery, the friendly staff offer tastings of the two Hand Filled expressions available for purchase. Typically, one is an 11, 12, or 13-year-old whisky, excellent for under $200. The other is an incredibly expensive (for me) 27, 28, or 29-year-old superb, dark whisky, darker than my conscience, haha. Naturally, I seize the chance to take notes and savor the wonderful whisky presented. Here are my impressions of Glendronach's 29yo, Oloroso Sherry Cask, vintage 1993, cask number 2463. MARAVILLOSA RED FRUITS JAM GUAYAS bottled at 55.5% ABV on May 3, 2023. Nose: Incredible. Tobacco, granola, figs, macerated fruits, grapes, and marzipan. Simply wonderful. So much complexity. Palate: It delivers everything you'd want and expect from Glendronach. Chocolate, almonds, very sweet. Like a nutty Toblerone bar; red fruits. Dried cherries, chocolate, and nuts. Finish: Exactly like a Toblerone chocolate bar. Almonds, hazelnut, and... Toblerone! Overall: Can a whisky taste like a Toblerone chocolate bar? That fact alone makes this whisky an amazing experience, especially considering its quality on the palate and nose. A perfect score, but its high price made me weep for two days because I couldn't afford it. My score: 100.
