Glendronach 19 Year Madeira Wood Finish

There are some remarkable Glendronach releases from years ago, distinguished by their white boxes with varying colors based on cask finish. These limited editions frequently offer a great experience, especially for devoted fans of the distillery. I've sampled the Moscatel and Tawny Port finishes from this 'collection' and now have the 19yo Madeira wood finish. Bottled at 46% ABV, my expectations are high. The nose is exceptional, potentially beyond perfect. It presents the most incredible sweet plum aroma, reminiscent of a fig enclosed within a date, which is then inside a raisin. The scent profile includes Tiramisu, red fruits, quince, and suddenly cocoa, cocoa butter, Toblerone chocolate, herbs, ginger, and chocolate powder mix, along with lavender. The palate is fantastic, featuring the flavor of a chilled chocolate bar that has turned slightly white. Red berries and ginger are present. It has a beautifully herbal character, unlike any I've encountered before, tasting like a strawberry with its plant intact. The aftertaste was a bit short, with notes of sawdust, sulfur, dryness, and light oak, akin to licking a wooden table. While not the best finish, it wasn't unpleasant. Overall, this could have been perfect, but the brief aftertaste prevented it. Nevertheless, it's an incredibly enjoyable single malt. Any 'Glendro' is a safe bet, as their spirit pairs wonderfully with fortified wine maturation. My rating for this very fine whisky is 93 out of 100.

Smells of dried grapes and worn leather. Tastes of unripe apples and oak. Lingering finish.
